may or may not have a widdle pi to play with in 30 days. felt like an appspot situation actually ~ the whole error server display you commonly get from getting more than a handful of people hitting your site silmutaneously as you hit refresh/f5 continuously for 2 and a half hours, that is if you actually got anything to load at all.
http://hoe-house.appspot.com/ was especially bad for this during peak hours. when i say peak, i literally mean more than a few people. heh.
the twitter audience, or rather, the audience weren't very forgiving at all about ddos-ing the supplier sites. much to the dismay of the folks at rpi, most of these concerns were directed at them and not at the obvious lack of preparations on the side of the suppliers. i mean, they were warned well before the launch about the heavy traffic. still, angry techies are angry indeed.
probably the most laughable bit about the whole thing is, naturally, the media press jumping on the #trendingtopic hoping to get a page view with their misinformed technical specifications of the product itself -
https://twitter.com/#!/Raspberry_Pi/status/174816440275312640 amongst other things.
still, that was a very successful launch and congrats to
http://www.raspberrypi.org/ can't wait to get a slice :}

by the way, that comic collaboration is finally finished. there was some unexpected latency (approximately 2 and a half months of personal downtime on my part and the main dude) but it developed into crunch time and ended with everyone being extremely pleased with the outcome.
ha. you can't get more marketing spiel than that.
it will cost USD4.99 from, i suppose, the stalls that will carry them. i'm guessing it would have to be bought from the film dudes when they bring them to film festivals/conventions. i know i will be buying a shitload. maybe. i guess i could print them out here myself as i have all the pages. speaking of, i have other plans for those pages but that will happen in due time. like much later.
i told myself i would be writing blog updates about the whole process but my word, it takes a LOT out of you. it's no wonder artists don't blog. ever. what's the point when there's no time for it? i'm only able to do it now when the final TIFFs are sent over and even that was a few days ago.
in any case, i feel i have "grown" as a colourist; ie. i kinda no longer feel like i don't know what the fuck i'm doing. it's mostly having the moxy to make mistakes and try again. it's also taught me a hell lot about "gimp" and also what a colourist is, in the general sense of the position in the comics industry; not a hell lot actually but definitely better than being an inker. apparently, those people have no soul nor the creative chops to be any more than tracers. yikes.
i looked back at the first bit of the comic and i'm horrified at how much i've changed in techniques.
i was rushing 4 pages a day then as i thought we were on a really tight schedule and seeing as i was told i had 48 pages to go, i was really afraid of getting swamped all at once. so i played catch up and we got the first test print out. i didn't know then what i did now. if i had the chance, i'd recolour the first 24 pages but by then, i'd probably be unsatisfied with the next 24 pages which are the pages i'm most happy with at the moment. heh. i did redo the cover though. it was bugging me all the time (read: i hated it and later i found out, so did the main artist dude.) so i finally went, that's it. and i did. it's so much better now. so much so, i'm proud enough to show to people and say, hey, i did that.
anyway, hopefully this will coax me to do that comic i originally intended to create with xix. otherwise, there were promises of more collabs with the same dude but at the current moment, nothing concrete at all so it's probably time to do some sketches or practise sketches. so says i.
to end this little ramble, i would like to take the opportunity to say a big, snot-riddled fuck you to day jobs and the zombification of the being. seriously took a toil on the motivation levels when i was trying to do the creative. i don't know. maybe this is the best it'll get. i just don't want to believe that.
